Craig Yr Hesg Quarry

Written by on 4th April 2024

After meeting Glyncoch area residents last week to hear their concerns about the expansion of mining activities at the craig yr Hesq quarry,  Pontypridd’s MP Alex Davies Jones has now met with senior members of the team at Hanson and Heidelberg Materials Aggregates, operators of the quarry.

She says she fed back all the concerns expressed to her from the local community in Glyncoch including noise, dust, traffic, environmental concerns, heritage concerns, safety, damage to properties and the lack of community engagement and communication.

They accepted the absence of any positive engagement as their last letter to residents had been in 2015.

The company also apologised for the breaches of terms regarding operation and assured her those responsible would be held to account. She made it clear its totally unacceptable and she’d be looking to press the matter further.

She reports a willingness from Heidelberg and Hanson here and that they recognise the failures.  They told her a new site manager will be starting at the quarry on the 19th April and a public meeting will be held to allow the community to feedback to them directly.

The MP says this is the start of engagement with the quarry and she’s still awaiting correspondence back from Cadw, the RSPB, Natural Resources Wales, RCT Council and the Welsh Government and will continue to keep the local community posted. As soon as the date has been set for the public meeting by the Quarry the local community will have as much notice as possible.

Meanwhile she’ll continue to work with Doug Williams, Councillor for Glyncoch and would encourage anyone with concerns or issues to contact them as they will be feeding this directly to the Quarry company.
