Wales & West Utilities is carrying out essential gas works between Quakers Yard and Nelson.

The £450,000 investment work, which began on 20 July and runs until 7 December, is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses so local people are kept safe and warm for generations to come.

As part of the scheme it has been agreed with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council that Pentwyn Road will be closed from Monday 10 August for four weeks. Whilst this closure is in place a diversion route will be clearly signposted.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller Adam Smith is managing this gas pipe upgrade work. He said:

“We know that working on roads like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure the work is completed in a timely fashion, while keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.

“Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2m distance if passing our work site.

“As the UK recovers from Coronavirus, we’ll be working hard to keep the gas flowing safely today and to prepare the gas network to transport green gases, like biomethane and hydrogen, so it can play its part delivering green, sustainable energy in the future.”
