Unpaid carers in Cwm Taf Morgannwg can now check their vaccine eligibility

Written by on 7th March 2021

Unpaid carers in Cwm Taf Morgannwg can now check if they are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination, as part of priority group six, through an online form.

Unpaid carers were put into group six under the latest guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

The guidance describes unpaid carers as:

Those who are eligible for a carer’s allowance, or those who are the sole or primary carer of an elderly or disabled person who is at increased risk of COVID-19 mortality and therefore clinically vulnerable. Those clinically vulnerable to COVID include children with severe neuro-disabilities, those who are designated Clinically Extremely vulnerable (CEV), adults who have underlying health conditions and those who need care because of advanced age. Eligible carers should be vaccinated in priority group 6. You can read the guidance in full here: COVID-19 vaccination of unpaid carers [HTML] | GOV.WALES

Unpaid carers will be vaccinated at one of Cwm Tag Morgannwg’s community vaccination centres (CVCs). There are six CVCs in operation at the moment in Bridgend, Maesteg, Llantrisant, Ystrad, Mountain Ash and Merthyr Tydfil. A seventh CVC is due to open in Aberfan around Easter.

Unpaid carers should fill in the vaccine eligibility form, and if the criteria is met, they will be sent an appointment letter, with the date and time of when they will have their first dose.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg’s GPs are vaccinating group five and people with underlying health conditions in group six. They are not vaccinating unpaid carers, so please do not contact your GP regarding appointments. You can find the form on CTM UHB’s website by following this link: COVID-19 Vaccine Information – Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board

It may be you are an unpaid carer who has already been offered a vaccination due to your age and so you do not need to fill in the form. If you complete the form and are not eligible,

please be reassured, your age may put you into groups 7, 8 or 9 and so you will be offered a vaccination by mid-April. Alternatively, all adults will be offered a vaccination by the end of July.
