Treorchy Library Set For New Look

Written by on 29th September 2021

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has said it is carrying out extensive works at Treorchy Library, marking a new ‘chapter’ in its history and making it more accessible for all users.

The works include the redesign of the main reception area, providing a more flexible space and information point for users, as well as providing a Box Office support of the adjacent Park and Dare Theatre.

The works also include the creation of a multi-purpose gallery and exhibition space for the display of a wide range of visual and creative art and artefacts, by professionals, community groups and individuals.

The main lending library is also being reorganised throughout, along with the relocation and new design layout of the popular children’s area, accommodating a raised platform that can be used as a performance space.

IT facilities at Treorchy Library are also being improved as part of the improvement works, costing over £150,000, with funding provided by the Council and Welsh Government’s Museums, Archives and Libraries Division.

To facilitate the extensive improvement works, Treorchy Library currently offers a limited service, with the main area of the premises closed to the public until Friday, November 15.

Councillor Rhys Lewis, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Well-being and Cultural Services, said:

“I am delighted that improvement works are currently being carried out at Treorchy Library for the benefit of its users and the whole community.

“The library is a focal point of the area, as are our libraries in towns and villages across Rhondda Cynon Taf. Their vital role within our communities was highlighted during the pandemic, with the introduction of the Order and Collect service, which remains popular

“We ask all users of Treorchy Library to bear with us during the improvement works, which once completed will be of great benefit to everyone. Users are also able to visit any other library within the County Borough.”
