Santa and his helpers sprinkle Christmas magic in Cwmdare

The festive season is well and truly underway in Cwmdare after a jam-packed weekend of Christmas events were held in the village.
With a sprinkling of support from local energy company, Pennant Walters, Cwmdare4Cwmdare (C4C) kicked off advent with two events which truly got the local community in the swing of Christmas.
With C4C volunteers working hard to spread joy to the families of Cwmdare, the weekend kicked off with a Christmas entertainment afternoon, where children gathered to see a special show. This was followed by Sunday’s ‘Carols around the Christmas Tree’ which saw a special visit from Santa, where he switched on the Christmas lights, which now shine brightly across the village.
The events continue next week with the annual trip around the village from Santa in his sleigh. Santa will set off from Cwmdare Miners Welfare Club at 4.30pm on Sunday 10 December and will journey through the whole village
Pennant Walters, a long-time supporter of C4C, supported the events with a donation.
Cllr. Ann Crimmings, Secretary of C4C, said:
“Our Christmas events are a firm fixture in the calendar, and we are delighted that so many people turned out to start the festive season in style.
“We know just how much joy the events bring to children and their families, and our team of volunteers work so hard put them on.
“It’s always such a delight to stand back and watch the faces of everyone involved and I am delighted to see the village twinkle at this time of year. Once again, on behalf of the village, I’d like to thank Pennant Walters for their ongoing support – without this we wouldn’t be able to do these things that bring the local community together.”
Pennant Walters provided the money from a fund linked to its Mynydd Bwllfa windfarm. It builds on previous donations which have seen the company provide money to support Cwmdar Primary and various other community groups in the area.
Pennant Walters managing director, Dale Hart, said:
“We are always happy that our funding is put to such good use and it’s wonderful to see the local community out in force to celebrate the festive season. A huge well done to the team at C4C for putting on such fantastic events that everyone gets behind!
“Our wind energy project community funds exist to make a difference to the local communities in which we work, and it’s clear to see that these events do just this.”
