PONTY FLOOD FUNDRAISING TOPS £35,000

Written by on 4th March 2020

Alex Davies-Jones, Member of Parliament for Pontypridd and Assembly Member Mick Antoniw have paid tribute to the generosity of local people who have donated £35,887 to help people who have been affected by the recent flooding in Pontypridd.

The MP and AM launched the on-line fundraising drive on the day the floods hit and since then donations have come in thick and fast  The money raised will now be distributed to those most in need via Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.

Alex Davies-Jones MP said:

We are thrilled at the response to our appeal, but not at all surprised.  This is a yet another great example of how Valleys communities pull together in adversity.

We considered keeping the fund open longer, but in the end it’s about striking the right balance between raising as much money as possible and getting those funds to the people who are in desperate need of help.”

The monies raised have been transferred to a RCT account and ringfenced for distribution in equal proportion to all residential occupiers in the Pontypridd constituency who have been, or will shortly be allocated the £500 Community Flood Recovery Grant.

Mick Antoniw AM said:

There are a great many people in Pontypridd who have lost a great deal, and in some cases everything because of the devastating floods, so this additional funding is very much needed.

Alex and I are grateful to RCT Council for organising the distribution on our behalf.  This is the quickest, most effective way of ensuring that everyone who needs help gets this top-up donation as soon as possible.”
