On Saturday, 27 March 2021, Welsh Government lifted stay local restrictions and eased the number of people that can meet outdoors.

Up to six people from two households can meet outdoors, socially distanced.

Rules for meeting indoors have stayed the same yet despite the relaxation of rules, 106 people were fined by South Wales Police for flouting restrictions.

Between Friday night and Sunday, the force received 261 calls related to possible Covid breaches. The vast majority of breaches related to house parties and indoor gatherings.

  • Five people at a house party in Cwmdu, Swansea;
  • Eight people at a house party in Ynysforgan, Swansea;
  • Six people attending a birthday party in Townhill, Swansea;
  • 10 people at a house party in Porth, Rhondda Cynon Taf;
  • Eight people at a wedding in Heolgerrig, Merthyr Tydfil.

Post-incident enquiries are ongoing with Joint Enforcement Teams in relation to a number of rented Air BnB properties that were used to host parties with large numbers of people. One of these includes over 60 people at a party in an Air BnB property in Adamsdown, Cardiff. Retrospective action will be taken where necessary and appropriate.

Acceptable Behaviour Contracts were issued at premises serving alcohol due to large crowds gathering, including one in Cathays, Cardiff and another in Plasnewydd, Cardiff.
