Llanwonno Mountain Route closure
Written by Gavin on 29th October 2020
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council requires a road closure to a section of the Llanwonno Mountain Route over a three-week period starting on November 5 – to carry out significant carriageway resurfacing along with important drainage work.
From Thursday, a 1.65km section of Llanwonno Road will fully-close between its junctions with Pleasant View (Ynysybwl) and Hawthorn Terrace (Perthcelyn). Road users will therefore still be able to travel directly between Ynysybwl and Blaenllechau using the mountain route, but there will be no direct access between Perthcelyn and Ynysybwl/Blaenllechau.
There will be a 24-hour closure in place over the first week of work (from November 5-11). During this week, there will be no general access for emergency service vehicles – however, local arrangements are in place to serve those local properties directly affected by the closure.
Depending on progress, which is weather-dependant, the closure hours could be reduced for the remaining two weeks of work. Details of any changes from Thursday, November 12, will be communicated by the Council in due course.
During the closures, an alternative route will be signposted. From Perthcelyn, proceed via Hawthorn Terrace, Glamorgan Street, B4275, Abercynon Road, Quarter Mile Bridge, A4059, A470, Bridge Street Roundabout, Bridge Street, Berw Road, Ynysybwl Road, New Road, Robert Street, Clydach Terrace, Clydach Road, Old Ynysybwl Road, Mynachdy Road and Pleasant View.
For road users travelling in the opposite direction (from Ynysbybwl), the above route can be taken in reverse order.
The resurfacing element of the work will be delivered through the Council’s £25.02m Highways Capital Programme for this year – which has allocated £6.3m to improve local roads and £1.3m for footways during 2020/21.
The Council would like to thank road users and the local community for their cooperation during the upcoming road closures, which are necessary to safely carry out the work and deliver these important works.
