White Bridge Update
Written by Gavin on 11th August 2021
Following repairs and a detailed assessment of the bridge structure, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has confirmed that the White Bridge will re-open as soon as minor works to surface infrastructure and lighting have been completed. A date for re-opening will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
It is confirmed that the bridge is capable of dealing with similar loadings to those carried before damaged caused by Storm Dennis, meaning the bridge will re-open with a 7.5T weight limit and no changes to highway rights for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.
Proposals for trial repairs to the structure are continuing in close liaison with CADW and the Council have said that they not anticipate any significant disruption to users whilst these works take place.
The trial repairs will help to develop the major repair programme to secure the bridge for the future and it’s anticipated these major works will require further closures, likely during 2022.
The council have said that they will endeavour to minimise disruption during these works and to work closely with CADW to secure the long-term future for this unique structure.
