Welsh Water Colleagues Help Keep Cardiff Parks Tidy

Colleagues from Welsh Water, the only not-for-profit water company, have this week come together in Cardiff to clean up the River Taff and Hailey Park as part of a volunteering drive for the company’s “Me and My Community” week. The events have been offered to all colleagues as an opportunity to get involved in their local communities to enhance and improve the environment.
At Monday’s event, dozens of bags were filled with litter, as well as retrieving some large and unusual items from the area including a shopping trolley. The Welsh Water team worked in partnership with Cardiff Rivers Group, Llandaff Rowing Club and Cardiff Council. Tuesday’s event partnered with Cardiff Council and The Friends of Hailey Park and focused on clearing a meadow to enhance the biodiversity and ecology of an area within Hailey Park. The Welsh Water community van was also on site to engage with local residents on an £8 million investment scheme which has recently taken place in the area.
Claire Roberts, Head of Community Engagement for Welsh Water said:
“We’re a socially responsible company – this is what customers and colleagues expect of us. Me & My Community week is all about going the extra mile for the communities we serve and offer colleagues the chance to try volunteering and showcase the sort of company we are. The last 18-months has been challenging but it’s also shown us about the importance of family, friends, colleagues, and the communities where we live. We already play a key role in our communities by providing the most essential of services – clean water, treating and getting rid of wastewater safely. We also support over 130,000 customers to pay their water bills – more than any other water company.
The response has been phenomenal so far, it’s brilliant to see how many colleagues are already so passionate about volunteering and how much they’ve enjoyed the activities on offer this week.”
More activities are planned across Wales this week as well as celebrating the company’s volunteering heroes for whom volunteering already plays a big part of their lives.
