Two teenagers found with knives and drugs on St Mary Street Cardiff have been arrested.
They were arrested following a police operation to tackle concerns about suspicious individuals gathering in the City centre.
South Wales Police say around 4pm on Saturday, April 23, information was received about a group, who appeared to be involved in drug-related activity, outside the Spar on St Mary Street. Police officers attended the scene and quickly encircled this group and detained them for a search.
• 17-year-old from Caerau was searched and found to be in possession of a Rambo-style knife and a Stanley blade. The knives were seized and he was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place.
• 13-year-old was Grangetown was searched and found to be in possession of bags of white powder and other drug paraphernalia. These were all seized for analysis and he was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class B drugs.
Following the arrests, the mobile police station was deployed to St Mary Street and the PCSO team maintained a presence for community reassurance.
South Wales Police say that they are aware of concerns about drug related activity and groups of individuals congregating within the city centre, particularly on St Mary Street and that such behaviour can be intimidating for those visiting or working in the area.
Police say robustly tackling these issues remain a daily priority for the City Centre Policing Team in order to keep the city centre a safe and welcoming environment.
