RCT PhotoMarathon a community photography competition, was originally planned for 2020 but postponed due to the Covid19 pandemic until June 2021. Open to all ages and abilities, Ariane Burgess from Pontypool won the under 18 prize. 12 further prizes have been won for each subject, with the newly opened Zip World sponsoring a prize for the “Valleys” category winner.
During Winter 2019 a passing conversation between Father and Daughter duo about how they missed the Cardiff PhotoMarathon since its ending in 2015 was the starting point for RCTPhotoMarathon. With help from the Welsh Royal Photographic Society, Penderyn Distillery and a number of other supporters the event took place on the 5th June 2021. All the pictures can be viewed at TheFactory in Porth RCT from the 16th Aug until the 3rd September 2021 (pre booked slots). https://www.
“Judging the images was an extremely hard task, from laughter to tears and everything in between there is so much joy to be found amongst the images during such a difficult time.” – Gaby Bromage, Event Creator.
“Really struggled to go out and shoot due to the lack of travel and this was just what I needed. It’s such a great thing for the community too. Hope it continues!” – Competitor.
