The BIG RCT Toy SWAP
Written by Gavin on 1st December 2022
The BIG Toy Swap will come to ‘The Shed’ in Aberdare from Monday 5th December.
The elves have arrived in Rhondda Cynon Taf to ensure we’re all recycling and being as green as we can over the festive period. Have Your-ELF a GREEN Christmas!
The BIG man (AKA SANTA) has put some very special plans in place to ensure that we reuse all our unwanted toys and replace them with ‘new to us toys’.
The Shed, Aberdare is opening its doors to GOOD boys and girls in Rhondda Cynon Taf from Monday 5th December for the BIG RCT Toy SWAP, which is GREEN ELF and SANTA APPROVED! Children are invited to come along to ‘The Shed’ and bring their toys ready to swap. If they can’t find their next favourite one, they can receive a special token to return any time before 23rd December to pick a ‘new to them toy’.
Toys will be placed under a big Christmas tree at the shop, making it a magical experience for children to enjoy, with talk of some special guests dropping in from time to time.
As winter bites and we focus our attention on having a good Christmas on a budget, whilst also being as GREEN as we can be, reuse shops offer the best solutions with some amazing bargains available! The Shed reuse facilities are based right across the County Borough, with one in every area of Rhondda, Cynon and Taf.
‘The Shed’ concept allows residents to purchase items deposited at the Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) from members of the public or donated direct to ‘The Shed’. From books to toys, bikes, crockery, ornaments, furniture and much more, the shop gives a new lease of life to items which could otherwise have been thrown out.
The shelves and floor space are always brimming with items (some of which are brand new) with lots of treasures and presents ready to be discovered this Christmas.
ALL the items are checked and tested by Wastesavers charity staff and volunteers to ensure they are safe and in good working order.
Please note; The Toy Swap event is only available at the Aberdare ‘The Shed’ this year – but ALL ‘The Shed’s’ will have some amazing bargains and special offers available. The Shed, Treherbert and Llantrisant will be offering a BIG toy sale for two days – “£1 for a bag* of toys” on 3rd and 10th December.
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure said:
“‘The Shed’ is fantastic and has been a huge success with RCT residents. I am delighted that we have teamed up with Santa and his elves this year. I’m sure the Toy Swap event will be a huge success, and we will have some very happy ‘GREEN’ boys and girls this Christmas!
“I hope that residents will also use this invaluable resource this Christmas and ensure that they can have the best and greenest Christmas possible.
“If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s being able to share Christmas with each other that matters, not what new gift is under the Christmas tree. I have picked up a few bargains from ‘The Shed’ this year, and they are wrapped and ready for the lucky recipients.
“The great thing about buying from a reuse facility is that it will result in even more items finding new homes and being diverted from landfill, definitely a great way to Have Your-ELF a GREEN Christmas.”
The Council boasts many CRC’s right across the County Borough, and all of these facilities will cater for all reuse and recycling needs – a full list of CRCs and the items they accept can be found at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/communityrecyclingcentres.
All centres are manned, and attendants are happy to advise residents on recycling and assist or signpost them in disposing of their household materials.
All centres are now open under winter opening hours, Monday – Sunday 8:00 to 17:30 from November – March. The centres will be closed from 3.30pm on 24th and 31st December and complete closure on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and re-open on Monday 2nd January 2023.
