Statement from Pontypridd Town Council
Written by Gavin on 31st January 2020
At its meeting yesterday evening (30th January) Pontypridd Town Council unanimously agreed an emergency motion strongly opposing any downgrading of emergency services at Royal Glamorgan hospital. Town Council leader, Cllr Simon Pritchard said “Royal Glamorgan Hospital provides a vital emergency service for the residents of Pontypridd and we are extremely concerned to hear that the Health Board are considering downgrading its emergency provision. We call upon the Health Board to review this decision and engage in further consultation with local communities and elected representatives”.
During the meeting strong opinions were expressed regarding this decision and Cllr Jayne Brencher who proposed the motion stated “I wholeheartedly endorse Cllr Pritchard’s comments. Downgrading emergency provision at Royal Glamorgan will clearly have a detrimental effect on our communities in Pontypridd and the wider area. We would be happy to sit down with representatives from the Health Board to explain our concerns before any final decision is made”. In its motion the Town Council also called upon other Town and Community Councils in the affected area to pass a similar motion to make clear the strength of feeling across the Health Board Area.
