Rhondda Tunnel Society

The Rhondda Tunnel Society is looking forward to what they say will be a major step taking place this Thursday towards re-opening the Victorian railway tunnel through the Bwlch Mountain.
That’s when the D equals Drill company which specialises in Diamond Drilling will make a hole in a 6 and a half foot concrete wall to release water which has built up behind it in a section blocked off from the rest of the tunnel at the Blaengwynfi end.
A determined group of enthusiasts, the Rhondda Tunnel Society want to re-open the tunnel linking the Rhondda and Afan Valleys as an Active Travel route and have already gathered an impressive amount of support from politicians in both local and national government who have pledged to help sort out issues like the ownership of the tunnel and find ways the project can be taken forward.
