Registration Open for First Virtual Nos Galan!

Written by on 1st October 2020

Registration for the first ever Virtual Nos Galan Road Races event is now open, with an initial 2,000 places up for grabs.

As always, competitors are urged to secure their place at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.  The entry price is £7.50 and registration will be open to all ages and abilities due to the format of this year’s event, which will be held over the whole month of December (1st to 31st).  Complete the online registration form and secure your place online.

Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions around public gatherings, the Nos Galan Committee took the decision to host a virtual event in 2020, where competitors can walk, jog, run, or even crawl their way to completing the 5k distance – either in stages or all in one go.

Competitors can make use of a treadmill, or run outdoors (we ask that you do not run the traditional Nos Galan route as there will be no safety measures in place) providing the total distance equals the required 5km.

Competitors will also need to track their distance via a tracking app or smart watch / phone. Once the distance is complete, a photo or screen grab of the evidence will then need to be uploaded and submitted online. If competitors are using a treadmill, then a photo of the distance displayed on the machine will suffice.

As with the physical form of the event, entrants will again receive a medal and t-shirt upon completion of the 5km, once the submitted evidence has been reviewed by the Nos Galan team.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Chair of the Nos Galan Committee and Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “Registration has now opened for the first-ever virtual Nos Galan event – and, as always, I’d urge anyone interested in entering the competition to register and secure their place at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.

“The current circumstances with coronavirus have meant that the Races need to be held a little differently this year and I am sure many will be keen to secure their place in what is a historic event for Nos Galan.

“Due to the event being held over the course of the whole month of December, places will be available to all ages and abilities as there are no race categories for this year, and entrants must log and submit their evidence to the Nos Galan team for review in order to complete the event and receive a t-shirt and medal.

“I look forward to seeing competitors sharing their preparations with us on the Nos Galan social media channels over the coming weeks.”
