RCT Council Launches Guaranteed Interview Scheme

To further demonstrate their continued support and commitment to its Armed Forces community, and to honour the spirit of the Armed Forces Covenant, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has launched its new Guaranteed Interview Scheme.
Aimed at all Service leavers, Veterans and Reservists who meet the required essential criteria for any vacancy set out in any Council employment pack, this initiative will guarantee the individuals an interview invitation for the position available, further cementing the relationship between the Council and its Armed Forces.
Councillor Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Deputy Leader and Armed Forces Champion, said:
“The introduction of the Council’s new Guaranteed Interview Scheme helps make it easier for our Armed Forces community and veterans in Rhondda Cynon Taf to overcome barriers to civilian employment post active service and also helps reduce the potential health and well-being impacts of long-term unemployment.
“In turn, the Council will benefit from a wider selection of candidates who meet the essential criteria and who may have a large number of transferrable skills.”
All employment vacancies within Rhondda Cynon Taf Council now state that it welcomes applications from its Armed Forces community.
Although the Council’s Guaranteed Interview Scheme provides the guarantee of an interview to those who meet the essential criteria, it does not however, guarantee employment, as selection procedures would ensure the best candidate for the job is appointed.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council was one of the first Local Authorities in Wales to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012, a commitment that was reaffirmed in 2018.
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme was launched in 2014 and recognises those organisations who pledge, demonstrate and advocate their support for the Defence Community. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is currently the proud holder of the Gold Award.
The Council’s Armed Forces Veterans Service offers a wide range of assistance on subjects such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Housing, Adult Social Care, Benefits, Finances and Employment. It currently supports more than 600 veterans across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
The Council also provides Covenant awareness sessions to its staff, charities and external organisations and works closely with Armed Forces partners, neighbouring authorities, charities and veteran groups.
