Written by on 10th July 2020

The Council Leader has made a statement in relation to the reopening of children’s play areas in Rhondda Cynon Taf, following the First Minister’s announcement earlier today.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “Following the First Minister’s announcement earlier today, I can confirm that play areas in Rhondda Cynon Taf will begin to open for public use from Monday, July 20.

“The Council has been working through a programme of maintenance and preparing the facilities by undertaking grass cutting and carrying out safety inspections to the majority of our play areas over the past few weeks as we have prepared for the school holidays, and almost 190 of our total stock of over 210 will begin to open on Monday, July 20.

“Whilst the vast majority of our play areas have been inspected and can open on Monday (July 20), Council staff are still working through a small number of the sites and these remaining inspections will be carried out over the course of the following week as we work towards ensuring that all facilities can safely open by the following week, commencing on the July 27.

“As always, the Council is seeking to operate in line with the public health guidance and Welsh Government advice regarding the Rate of Transmission and our understanding of the virus.”
