Pontypridd’s MP joins local community for candlelit vigil to raise awareness of male violence against women

Written by on 24th November 2023

Alex Davies-Jones, the MP for Pontypridd and Taff Ely, will tonight stand vigil with the local community to mark White Ribbon Day 2023, and highlight the tragic impact of male violence against women and girls. Tomorrow marks the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women.

Commenting before the event, Alex Davies-Jones MP said:

“It’s an honour and a privilege to speak at tonight’s vigil to raise awareness of the huge issue of male violence against women. This evening’s event provides us with an important opportunity to remember and mourn all of the women and girls who have lost their lives at the hands of male violence.

“Ending violence against women and girls starts when we #ChangeTheStory, and men have an important role to play in making this a reality. Violence against women and girls is not a women’s issue – we all need to call out and challenge the seemingly ‘harmless’ attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate violence for women and girls.

“All men can take an active role in stopping violence before it starts by spotting and calling out attitudes and behaviours that are harmful, and lead to more extreme cases of violence. It’s incredibly important that men lead by example as strong allies – every man has a part to play in ending male violence against women.

“The White Ribbon Campaign is highlighting how you can #ChangeTheStory and make a difference this November for White Ribbon Day. Their website has a wide range of free resources available about how you can help to build a better future for women and girls. I encourage you all to look.”

The vigil is taking place tonight, Friday 24 November, at 5:30pm outside the Llys Cadwyn building in Pontypridd town centre.
