A Pontyclun Primary School pupil’s design will be feature on the local Labour Member of Parliament and Member of the Senedd’s Christmas card this year.

Year 6 pupil Corey Walker is the winner of Alex Davies-Jones MP and Mick Antoniw MS’s annual Christmas card competition.

Corey was presented with a certificate, a framed copy of the entry, and a £50 gift voucher prize at a special ceremony at the school this morning.

Corey’s design will feature on the front of Ms Davies-Jones and Mr Antoniw’s printed Christmas cards that will be sent over the coming days to a number of constituents, businesses and organisations this year, including Their Majesties The King and Queen, First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford MS, and the Leader of the Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer MP.

The annual Christmas card contest has been running for several years now in what has become a festive tradition and once again they received a huge number of entries.

Children at local primary schools across Pontypridd and Taff Ely were invited to use their creative skills and submit entries based on this year’s theme ‘what Christmas means to me’.

Speaking after presenting the winning design, Alex Davies-Jones MP said:

“It was lovely to once again receive so many entries from local primary school pupils to our joint Christmas card competition – which has now become an annual festive tradition. So much positivity and creativity has been shown in these entries around the theme of ‘what Christmas means to me’, and I’d like to thank everyone that took part.

“Picking a winner this year was such a difficult task and I’d like to thank the residents at the Ty Eirin care home in Tonyrefail for their help in choosing the winner and the three runners up. I was so happy to be able to continue this tradition and I hope it was a fun and engaging activity for children across the constituency who took part.

“It is always a highlight to host a special ceremony to present the winner with their prize and this morning’s ceremony at Pontyclun Primary was special.”

Commenting also, Mick Antoniw MS said:

“Corey’s design is absolutely fantastic and I’m sure that it will have pride of place on many people’s mantlepieces. We were thrilled to receive so many excellent entries again this year, making it very difficult to pick the winner. Well done to everyone who took part.”

Gabrielle Pengelly of YGGG Llantrisant, Gracie-Anna Kolade of Cwmlai Primary were runners up in the contest, and Megan Jones of YGGG Llantrisant came third. All three also feature on the inside of the card.

Alex and Mick teamed up with the residents at the Ty Eirin care home in Tonyrefail to judge the entries and pick the winners.
