Since it’s formation two years ago the Pontypridd Men’s Shed project, based in the Taff Meadow Community Centre in Treforest, has grown to more than 40 members.
Such has been the success of the Initiative that the Shedders have branched out by setting up a Wood Shed in East Street, Trallwn under the banner “Woodfellas” which will be officially opened at 11am on Friday September 27th.
The Shedders, led by former roofer Gareth Pugh, have been busily equipping the new outlet.
Pontypridd Men’s Shed chairman Andy Phillips said:
“The members have been busy creating much needed infrastructure required to develop the new facility, which over time has been a bakery, a garage and a print shop.“Gareth along with other Shedders have rolled up their sleeves and started transforming it into what promises to be a fantastic Wood Shed.“The Shedders have been able to create workbenches and storage, installing machinery while overseeing the collection of much needed donations of equipment, materials and tools, etc, thanks to the generosity of the general public.“The creation of such a Wood Shed is key to the very ethos which makes up the Men`s Shed movement which is based upon good mental health practice and wellbeing that involves a health through stealth approach to improving the quality of lives of local men”.
From October 1st the Wood Shed will be opening on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am until noon and a warm welcome will be given to anyone calling in to see the exciting new venture.
