London Terror Attacks – RCT Mayor Statement

The loss of life and injury suffered yesterday (Wednesday 22nd March) during the terror attack in London was tragic and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.

As a mark of respect in Rhondda Cynon Taf, flags have been lowered to half mast at the Council’s main buildings.

I would like to express my admiration and gratitude for the brave and selfless way in which our Emergency Service personnel responded to the atrocities and pay tribute to all the Emergency Service men and women up and down the country who are once again back out on our streets today seeking to protect us and uphold the rule of law and democracy.

Unfortunately, we live in a time where the threat of such attacks is seemingly never far away and, whilst it is important we each remain vigilant, it is equally important that vigilance is not confused with intolerance and hate.

We must not let the hateful actions of a small number of people divide our communities in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Democracy is a fundamental part of our way of life and is something we should all value and seek to protect – yesterday’s attack will not change this.
