Let’s Talk Climate Change RCT

Written by on 22nd April 2021

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has launched a new and exciting Climate Conversation – ‘Let’s Talk Climate Change RCT’ and would love to hear your views and thoughts about how the Council can shape their plans for the future.

Rhondda Cynon Taf is an area of vast natural beauty. It is home to many parks, country parks, and fine array of wildlife, including some rare plants and animals. It is also an area which proudly reflects its industrial past, which is why our County Borough is always in demand with television and film makers, who love making the most of our wonderful surroundings.

But the whole world is talking about Climate Change and its often drastic effects and hearing your views on how to help tackle Climate Change by working together in Rhondda Cynon Taf, and also your views on the plans that have set out so far in the Council’s own draft Climate Change Strategy.

Councillor Rhys Lewis, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Well-being and Cultural Services, said: “We face challenging times ahead. The temperature is rising around the world and as we are all too familiar in Rhondda Cynon Taf, we are experiencing adverse weather conditions all year around.

“We have already seen the devastation that torrential rain causes in our communities in recent times due to the likes of Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis. Countless homes and businesses flooded and personal belongings and other items destroyed and lost forever.

We also see the results of prolonged dry spells each summer and the destruction caused by woodland fires, which is why the Council is once again supporting South Wales Fire and Rescue Service with Operation Dawns Glaw.

Now is the time for us all to talk, and more importantly to act. If you care about Rhondda Cynon Taf, we encourage you to join us as we ‘Talk Climate Change RCT’ – There are over 240,000 people living in Rhondda Cynon Taf and together we can all play our part in making a difference to the world in which we live.”

The aim is for Rhondda Cynon Taf to be a Carbon Neutral Council by 2030 and that the County Borough will also be as near as possible to Carbon Neutral by then.

When safe to do so, the Council have said they will be getting out and about in our communities and talking to you about how they can all make a difference and achieve our aims for 2030.

But until then, they would love you to help to find more and better ways to play our part, as well as tell everyone about the great things that people and communities are already doing in the County Borough.

There are many ways in which you can get involved and do this. Let’s Talk RCT

You can give your feedback on our plans for the future in our survey and share your ideas about how they can do more as a Council to help protect the planet.
