Jeff Japers wins Musical Comedy Award

Jeff Japers has won this year’s Musical Comedy Award.

The Welsh-based comic, Originally from Glossop in the North of England, Japers moved to Pontypridd in 1992 and currently lives in Graigwen, was also named the audience favourite, as well as winning the judges’ vote.

He’s been writing and performing comedy songs for over 20 years, performing them on the Welsh music scene both with his band Gaudy Orde and as a solo artist. The set he performed at the final included a song about the M4 motorway, and a musical number about the Royal Family.

Coming in second was Talal Karkouti, a British-Syrian comic based in West London, and third was London-based cabaret artist Simon David.

The best newcomer accolade went to The Sugarcoated Sisters, real-life siblings Tabby and Chloe who had a viral hit before Christmas with a TikTok video mocking Downing Street parties racking up almost 5million TikTok views.

The final, sponsored by WeGotTickets, was staged at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London and streamed live via NextUp.

Also taking part were Abigail Carter-Simpson, Amy Webber, Chris Timoney, Joseph Emslie, Kayleigh Jones, Kit Sullivan, Nikola McMurtrie and Orlando Gibbs – plus a headline set from Sooz Kempner.
