Invoke the spirit of Nye Bevan with new deal for the South Wales Valleys, says Labour MP

Cynon Valley MP Beth Winter has demanded for a new deal for the Valleys for jobs, public services and workers’ pay.
The Welsh Member of Parliament made the call after a mass ‘listening canvass’ of all her constituents about their priorities.
Speaking as the results of the survey were published, Winter said the findings showed the public wanted a post Covid settlement based on social justice and fairness.
Winter said Valley communities needed a transformational new deal, like that delivered in 1945 by the post war Labour Government and has commissioned research into what that might look like in Cynon Valley.
Beth Winter said, “The brilliant response to my survey has made clear that people feel the current economic settlement isn’t working for them. People want an economy based on full employment with fair pay, they want investment in town centres and urgent action to protect our environment.”
“We can’t afford to spend time tinkering with the current system, we need transformational change like there was in 1945. That’s why I’ve commissioned research into the Post-Covid economy of the Cynon Valley.”
“Too often we refer to our communities as being post-industrial. We can be rightly proud of our heritage but I want to focus on the economy of the future, not the past. That’s what this research is all about.
