A volunteer at Hirwaun YMCA has been named young people’s community champion by local member of Parliament, Beth Winter.

Scarlett Bowditch, who volunteers to help run the YMCA’s café has been rewarded for her vital role in creating a warm and welcoming environment for visitors at the community centre.

The Young People’s Community Champion Award has been instigated by local MP Beth Winter to celebrate young people who go ‘over and above’ to make a positive difference.

Speaking after presenting the award, Beth Winter MP said,

“Too often, young people in our communities get a bad reputation. Scarlett represents the reality that our communities are full of young people who work hard and make a positive difference.”

“It’s obvious she is held in very high regard at Hirwaun YMCA and I know she has a very bright future ahead of her. I’m delighted to be able to recognise the positive contribution she makes.”

Speaking about the award, Neil Reed from Hirwaun YMCA said,

“Scarlett always greets customers with a friendly smile and has a positive impact on the people who visit the centre, many of whom are vulnerable or have long term health conditions.”

“She has quickly become a popular team member at the YMCA, and is valued and respected by everyone at the centre.”
