GREEN MAN FESTIVAL 2022
Written by Gavin on 14th September 2021
Green Man Festival, Wales’ largest music festival today announces the first details of next year’s 20th anniversary edition, taking place from 18th-21st August 2022. Last month’s triumphant return reminded festival goers why Green Man is one of the UK’s most beloved festivals and 2022 will see the festival return for an incredibly special weekend packed with celebration and surprises.
Today Green Man name Mercury Prize winning, BRIT and Grammy award nominated Michael Kiwanuka as the festival’s first 2022 headliner. Kiwanuka will play a set of beloved tracks from his acclaimed 2019 album KIWANUKA, as well as his breakthrough records Love & Hate and Home Again. Elevated by his expansive new material alongside older favourites, Kiwanuka’s fourth appearance at the festival will this time be as a worthy and mesmerising headliner. The full line-up announcement for the 2022 festival will take place next year.
Managing director and owner of Green Man festival Fiona Stewart says “We’re so excited about Green Man’s 20th birthday and we’re planning to celebrate his big anniversary with lots of wonderful surprises and the best party ever!”
Tickets for 2022’s Green Man festival are on sale now; there are a very limited number of early bird tickets available for the weekend, and once these are gone, general sale tickets will become available, so keep a watchful eye out!
For those looking for the full Green Man experience, the Settler’s Pass turns the festival into a week-long holiday, allowing early access to the site from Monday 15th August, and includes workshops, music, discounts on local heritage sites, galleries, castles and more.

Green Man 2021 was a successful return for the festival after 2020’s forced cancellation, welcoming 20,000 returning Green Man fans and newcomers back to the foot of the stunning Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons. They were treated to outstanding performances from headliners Mogwai, Caribou, Fontaines D.C. and Tirzah, while Thundercat, Self Esteem and Black Midi provided stand out moments alongside a fantastic line-up of music, theatre, comedy, science and arts.
Away from the music, the festival’s pioneering science and education area, Einstein’s Garden, once again showcased discussions, stalls and experiments for children and adults alike, and Green Man welcomed a unique programme of Visual Art including installations that looked deeply into the natural world from artists Gweni Llwyd, Freya Dooley, Beth Kettel, and Kristina Pulejkova.
Green Man’s Babbling Tongues area hosted a wealth of literature, talks and musical debates during the day, and a stellar line-up of comedy talent at night. The Little Folk children’s area continues to pioneer family-centric fun at UK festivals with a broad programme of entertainment and interactive exhibitions; this year’s theme was the prehistoric ‘Land Before’.
