Fundraising event flies into Cardiff Airport

Over the weekend, Cardiff Airport opened its doors to invite private aircraft to ‘fly in’ to Cardiff Airport for a one-off reduced landing fee of £20, with proceeds donated to the Welsh Air Ambulance

The ‘fly in’ was hosted by the Airport’s southside partners Aeros, Global Trek Aviation, Signature Flight Support and DragonFly, welcoming light, privately owned aircraft weighing up to a maximum of two metric tonnes. Having previously been postponed from August due to poor weather, this weekend’s event was a great success and offered a rare opportunity for pilots to enjoy the full experience of landing in a fully operational commercial airport.

Over 35 aircraft landed at the Airport on Saturday and Sunday, raising £1,370 for the Welsh Air Ambulance.

Ceri Mashlan, Director of Operations at Cardiff Airport, said: “It was fantastic to be able to offer the private owners of light aircraft the chance to experience landing at Cardiff Airport. The event was a great success, and I’m delighted that the fly-in was able to raise so much for the Welsh Air Ambulance. Thank you and congratulations to the team and our southside partners for organising such a successful event.”

Jac Osborne, Deputy Operations Manager at DragonFly added: “It was a pleasure to host the charity event at Cardiff Airport in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance. The Air Ambulance is funded purely by public support, so putting on this event was a great way to contribute to the charity, and of course it was fantastic to see so many pilots flying in to use Cardiff Airport’s facilities.”
