FREE Festive Parking continues for a seventh year this December
Written by Gavin on 3rd December 2020
Visitors to Aberdare and Pontypridd town centres are reminded that parking remains FREE throughout December 2020 from 10am each day – as the Council’s Festive Parking initiative continues for a seventh year.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is once again encouraging residents to Shop Local in support of our local businesses at Christmas, and it is even more important to do so in 2020 after a very difficult year for traders. All visitors to our town centres must continue to strictly comply with 2-metre social distancing due to the pandemic.

Free parking after 10am has been in place in Aberdare and Pontypridd since October 24, 2020 – and will continue up until December 31, to encourage visitors to explore our wonderful High Street business over the festive period.
Important changes to our town centres are still in place to help maintain a social distance, including signage and pavement markings. Visitors may need to queue up on the street before accessing some shops and buildings, and they should be considerate while waiting outside neighbouring businesses.
Free parking in Aberdare and Pontypridd has been ongoing since October 24, and was also in place from mid-March to August – covering the periods where the greatest public health restrictions were in place. This measure recognised the limited use of public transport, supported key workers and encouraged essential shopping to take place locally in support of traders.
In Aberdare, the FREE parking applies to car parks at Crown Buildings, Library, Green Street, Duke Street, High Street, Nant Row, Rock Grounds and Ynys. In Pontypridd, free parking is available at Gas Road, Goods Yard (Council-owned section only), Millfield, Berw Road and Sardis Road car parks.
Please note that parking at some locations – Library, Green Street, Duke Street and High Street car parks in Aberdare, and Gas Road car park in Pontypridd – are short-stay only, for a maximum period of four hours.
