This is the full RCT County Borough Council Press Release:
“FREE festive parking returns to Aberdare and Pontypridd this December
For the sixth year in a row, FREE festive parking returns to Aberdare and Pontypridd throughout the entire month of December – as the Council encourages residents to Shop Local this Christmas.
Every Council-owned car park in the two towns will be FREE to residents and visitors between Sunday, December 1, and Tuesday, December 31 – from 10am each day. This has proven successful in allowing people to enjoy our Town Centres over Christmas – and coincides with the message of our Shop Local campaign for visitors to explore our wonderful High Street businesses.
In Pontypridd, free parking will be at Gas Road, Goods Yard (Council-owned section only), Millfield, Berw Road and Sardis Road car parks.
In Aberdare, free Christmas parking applies to car parks at Crown Buildings, Library, Green Street, Duke Street, High Street, Nant Row, Rock Grounds and Ynys.
*Please note that Library, Green Street, Duke Street and High Street car parks in Aberdare, and Gas Road car park in Pontypridd, are all short-stay – for a maximum period of four hours.
And, don’t forget, Council car parks in Tonypandy, Mountain Ash and Porth remain FREE, after parking charges in the towns were abolished in 2017. Disabled residents and visitors can continue to park for free at all times in designated disabled bays when they display their ‘blue badge’.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways, said: “Free festive parking in Aberdare and Pontypridd returns once again in 2019, as we ask residents to Shop Local this Christmas and encourage visitors to explore the vast choice of shops on our High Streets. The free parking will again run for the whole month of December, right up until New Year’s Eve.
“Since April 2017, residents have enjoyed permanent free parking in Porth, Tonypandy and Mountain Ash – when charges in Aberdare and Pontypridd were reduced. The Council is committed to helping its retail areas, with 130 property front improvements approved through the Town Centre Maintenance Grant so far – while free public-access Wi-Fi is now available in Aberdare and is being rolled out across six further town centres.”
