Former GTFM news presenter shortlisted for prestigious media award
Brad Williams, from the Cynon Valley, is now a journalist at ITV News Cymru Wales.

He has been shortlisted for a Wales Media Award in the ‘Ed Townsend Student Journalist of the Year’ category.

He volunteered at GTFM Valleys Newsroom for more than two years before leaving to study a masters degree at Cardiff University.

The 24-year-old has won two awards, one local to RCT and the Global Diana Award for voluntary services to journalism in the Cynon Valley.

Before joining GTFM, Brad volunteered with Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Youth Engagement Participation Service (YEPS) and produced articles and social media content for its magazine, WICID.tv.
When studying a BA in English and Creative Writing at the University of South Wales, he created ‘Cynon Valley News’ on social media.

At GTFM, Brad worked alongside Station Manager and Head of News, Terry Mann.

Throughout Storm Dennis and Covid-19, Brad devoted his own time to help bring the people of RCT the latest developments, from across the borough and wider country.

Speaking to GTFM about being shortlisted, Brad said:

“I’m beyond thrilled with this news.

“It’s a prestigious award for journalists in Wales and I’m humbled to have made it onto the list.

Brad continued: “I absolutely love my job. I get to meet some inspirational people.

“I’m very grateful to everyone who allows me to share their stories and I’m looking forward to the award ceremony.”
