Ferndale Incident

An 80-year-old woman has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a van.The incident occurred in High Street, Ferndale at around 7.30am this morning.The woman suffered “serious injuries” after being hit by a white Volkswagen Caddy and was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff.Officers from South Wales Police closed the road between The Strand and Brooke Street outside the Co-op in both directions for several hours following the crash.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “We can confirm a serious road traffic collision occurred in Ferndale this morning between a pedestrian and a white Volkswagen Caddy.”
“The pedestrian – an 80 year-old woman – was taken to the University Hospital of Wales by air ambulance, where she is being treated for serious injuries.”Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call 101, giving reference *018506.
