Essential traffic light replacements on the A4119 at Miskin
Written by Gavin on 13th July 2023
Work to replace and upgrade a series of traffic lights on the A4119 at Miskin will take place over three weeks from July 20 – firstly focusing on the School Road junction before moving onto the Groesfaen Road junction.
The traffic lights at both locations need to be replaced as they are reaching the end of their design life. As part of the replacement works, new LED signals will be fitted to improve energy efficiency and a new method of detection will be implemented to increase traffic flow through the junctions. The Council has appointed contractor Centregreat Ltd to deliver the scheme.
Residents and road users will notice traffic management on the A4119-School Road junction from the evening of Thursday, July 20, lasting for two weeks. Once this work is complete, the traffic management will be moved to A4119-Groesfaen Road junction from the evening of Friday, August 4, for one week.
The traffic management will be in the form of temporary signals that replicate the permanent traffic lights while they are being replaced. Therefore, the arrangements for road users will be unaffected for the majority of the scheme.
Three scheduled road closures as part of the scheme
Lane closures will be implemented by RCT Council’s contractor where they are necessary – while three road closures are scheduled for elements of the work that cannot be completed safely with the road remaining open to traffic.
The closures are available to view as maps on RCT Council’s website here, and are described below. They have been scheduled for weekends and during the school summer holiday to minimise disruption as much as possible.
- Closure 1 – left turn onto School Road from A4119 northbound. This will start at 9am on Saturday, July 22, and end at 10pm on Sunday, July 23. Motorists should proceed northbound on the A4119, before using the B4264, Ffordd Cefn-yr-Hendy and School Road. View closure 1
- Closure 2 – right turn onto School Road from A4119 southbound. This will start at 9am on Saturday, July 29, and end at 10pm on Sunday, July 30. Motorists should proceed southbound on the A4119, and then use the M4 Junction 34 roundabout and A4119 northbound. View closure 2
- Closure 3 – right turn onto A4119 northbound from Groesfaen Road. This will take place between 9am and 10pm on Sunday, August 6. Motorists should turn left onto the A4119 southbound, before proceeding via the M4 Junction 34 roundabout and A4119 northbound. View closure 3
The scheme is being funded by RCT Council’s Highways Capital Programme for 2023/24, as part of a wider £400,000 allocation to modernise traffic signals. The Council would like to thank residents and road users for their cooperation as this essential replacement scheme is completed in the weeks ahead.
