Entry to the Rhondda Tunnel

A planned entry into the Rhondda Tunnel will take place on Friday 1st December 2017.
Chairman of the Rhondda Tunnel Society, Steve Mackey told GTFM what’s going on.
Officials of the Rhondda Tunnel Society along with the Chairman of the Rhondda Tunnel Technical Sub Committee Mr Steve Jones (Retired Engineer). Also taking part in the entry will be an Engineer from the recently appointed contractors ‘Balfour Beatty’.
Hammonds of Aberdare will be attending on behalf of Highways England to measure the inside of the Air Shaft at the Blaengwynfi end in order to know the exact dimensions for the new ‘Cap’ that will be replacing the Concrete Cap early next year.
Mr Steve Jones will head the RTS and Balfour Beatty team which need to collate information in readiness for the detailed survey which is also due to take place early next year.
A gentleman by the name of Graeme Bickerdike will also be entering the Tunnel. Mr Bickerdike, the main drive behind the ‘Queensbury Tunnel Project’ will be taking notes to help the Queensbury project along.
