Former GTFM News presenter and Diana Award winner Brad Williams has accepted an offer to work with ITV Cymru Wales’ award-winning news team in Cardiff Bay.

Brad, aged 23, worked voluntarily since leaving Mountain Ash Comprehensive School to bring people living in the Cynon Valley and wider Rhondda Cynon Taf area trustworthy online news content.

Before joining GTFM, he volunteered with Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Youth Engagement Participation Service (YEPS) and produced articles and social media content for their magazine WICID.tv.

When studying a BA in English and Creative Writing at the University of South Wales, Brad created a blog website and social media accounts called ‘Brad’s Blog,’ followed by ‘Cynon Valley News.’

He has won two awards, one local to RCT and the Global Diana Award for voluntary services to journalism in the Cynon Valley.

For more than two years, he worked alongside Station Manager and Head of News, Terry Mann at RCT’s popular local radio station GTFM. Throughout unprecedented times including Storm Dennis and Covid-19, Brad devoted his own time to help bring the people of RCT the very latest developments from across the borough and wider country.

Last year, Brad left GTFM to study the MA Broadcast Journalism course at Cardiff University.

Brad told GTFM:

“Thanks to family, friends, teachers, tutors, and the team at YEPS and GTFM, I’m thrilled to accept a job with ITV Wales. This has long been my dream and I’m really excited for the future.”
