Cymru to face Scotland in June
Written by Gavin on 21st May 2021
Cymru’s final preparations ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign will take
place next month with a friendly against Scotland on Tuesday 15 June at Parc y Scarlets.
The two teams last met in the 2017 Cyprus Cup, where Scotland won 6-5 on penalties after a
goalless draw. The Scots, ranked 23rd in the world, qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup
where they narrowly missed out on a spot in the last 16.
The match will be the third time the national women’s team have played at Parc y Scarlets, which
also hosted the 2013 UEFA Women’s U19 Euro final.
The camp will be Grainger’s last chance to see the players until the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup
qualifying campaign gets underway in September. Cymru have been drawn alongside France,
Slovenia, Greece, Kazakhstan and Estonia in Group I.
The kick-off time for the fixture will be confirmed in due course. The match will be played behind
closed doors due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m very excited to be with the players again. We had a great camp in April with two competitive
performances. Scotland will be a great test as we look to continue the progress ahead of the World
Cup qualifiers beginning in September.” – Gemma Grainger
