Local community group, Cwmaman Music Festival, which is also known as Cwmfest, is celebrating after being awarded £5150 in National Lottery funding to support its work to continue to create a culture of hope and aspiration in our village.
The group based in Cwmaman will use the money by providing a platform for local musicians and songwriters to develop their skills.
Cwmaman Music Festival has been running since 2008 and is staffed by volunteers. It was founded by a group of local people and is the culmination of the monthly “live open mic” sessions throughout our village held at The Globe Inn, Shepherds Arms and Cwmaman Arts Centre.
Cwmaman Music Festival is held over the last full weekend of September, soSeptember 27th to 29th 2024, and will showcase a wide variety of musical talent from Cwmaman and the surrounding areas. More information on thefestival and lineup is available at www.cwmfest.co.uk
The new funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK, will continue to “keep our village of Cwmaman alive “.
At the same time Cwmaman Music Festival benefits also include local people of all ages becoming committee members and the life skills that it brings.
Our relationship with Coleg y Cymoedd also provides training placements during the Cwmfest weekend for Level 3 Creative Media Course students.
Robert Jenkins Chairman/ Treasurer, says: “ We`re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised our work in this way. Now thanks to National Lottery players we will be able to continue to support local up and coming musicians.
This is important because it underpins our efforts to promote “music in the village“.
Local Students from their Level 3 Creative Media Course say “ the experience gained from supporting the Cwmfest weekend can be included in our Personal Statements when applying for jobs or to continue our studies “.
The National Lottery Community Fund recently launched its strategy,` it starts with community`, which will underpin its efforts to distribute at least £4 billion of National Lottery funding by 2030.
As part of this, the funder has four key missions, which are to support communities to come together, be environmentally sustainable, help children and young people thrive and enable people to live healthier lives.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. Thanks to them, last year (2023/24) the National Lottery Community Fund awarded over half a billion pounds (£686.3 million) of life-changing funding to communities across the UK, supporting over 13,700 projects to turn
their great ideas into reality.
