Christmas Pantomime 2019

Written by on 24th September 2019

Christmas may seem a long way off just yet, but details of the Council’s fantastic festive offering for all the family have been announced.

Family favourite Cinderella runs at both the Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare, and the Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy, throughout the month of December.

Starring Gareth John Bale, Richard Tunley and Jemima Nicholas, audiences will be whisked away on a magical journey of stars, glitter, music and laughter.

Buttons will take you through the enchanting story of Cinderella, meeting the Ugly Sisters, the Fairy Godmother and a whole host of colourful characters along the way.

Cllr Rhys Lewis, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Well-Being and Cultural Services, said: “The festive season is always a very special time of year, and there is nothing more special than taking the family along to a pantomime, one of the oldest traditions in the history of theatre.

“The Council’s pantomimes are always very popular and I am delighted that Cinderella is bringing the Ball to both the Coliseum Theatre and Park & Dare Theatre.

“Both our theatres are special places, steeped in history and firmly established in their local communities, offering a packed and varied programme of entertainment all year around.

“They are magical places to visit all through the year, but Christmas is so special. Book your panto tickets early to avoid disappointment later in the year.”

Great costumes, dazzling scenery and a fantastic cast are the magical ingredients in this lavish and vibrant traditional family panto, which follows the huge success of last year’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Don’t miss this glittering treat, it’s guaranteed to be the highlight of your festive season.

School performances are available.  There will also be Relaxed Performances at both venues, open to everyone but particularly appropriate for individuals who find the usual theatre/cinema environment challenging due to an Autism Spectrum Condition, a learning disability, or fear of the dark, loud noises or confined spaces.

Welsh actor Gareth John Bale is a regular at RCT Theatres, having starred in productions such as Grav, The 39 Steps, Bedroom Farce, Boeing Boeing, Neville’s Island, Up ‘n Under, Romeo & Juliet, Bouncers and Oedipus, to name but a few.

His television credits include The Indian Doctor, High Hopes and Pobl Y Cwm.

Richard Tunley established Black RAT Productions in 2008 and has directed all the company’s productions to date. His directing credits also include the European premiere of Les Miserables: Student Edition for Sir Cameron Mackintosh.

He has written and directed many previous pantomimes for RCT Theatres and as an actor, he enjoyed a long association with the late Frank Vickery and Grassroots Productions, touring in many of Frank’s plays.

Other theatre credits include Oedipus, A Zoo Story, Bouncers, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth and The 39 Steps.

Playing the lead role of Cinderella is Jemima Nicholas, who has appeared in previous RCT Theatres productions, along with It’s My Shout short films from Wales.

Cinderella is at the Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare, on Friday, December 6, until Sunday, December 15. The run then continues at the Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy, on Friday, December 20, until Tuesday, December 24. Performance times vary. Tickets are priced £16; Concessions £13; Family Ticket £49.
