CARL’S 1,047-MILE WELSH ADVENTURE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR ABANDONED DOGS

Written by on 9th August 2023

Carl Thompson is walking 1,047 miles across Wales during August, to raise £10,000 for dog welfare charity Hope Rescue.

This intrepid feat is also taking place while Carl is carrying 60lbs on his back and is time limited as he returns to work in the army in September. His adventure started in Tywyn on 1st August and will take in some of the most breathtaking scenery along the Wales coastal path.

Carl decided to undertake this challenge to raise funds for a cause that was important to him, and to promote the benefits of exercise for good mental health.

He explained,

“I would love to be able to adopt a dog and give them a second chance in life but, due to work commitments, that just isn’t possible. So, I raise money for animal charities to allow them to continue the work I wish I could do. I will be attempting this challenge over my annual summer leave from the army and aim to complete this challenge in 31 days. I will be camping along the way and estimate to be on my feet for up to 13 hours each day”.

Carl is hoping to raise £10,000 during his 1,047 miles journey, covering an average of 35 miles each day. He is sharing his journey via his Instagram page – @carls_welsh_adventure – and hopes to inspire others to undertake challenges too.

“This year I am raising money for Hope Rescue. This charity means a great deal to me as it is situated in an area of Wales where I spent a lot of my childhood, and the name of the charity says it all – Hope Rescue”.

Every year, Hope Rescue supporters help to fundraise by holding local events, undertaking challenges, and running in 10k and marathon events.

Fundraising Manager, Cheryl George, said,

“We’re always inspired by the amazing things that our supporters do to raise funds for our charity. Carl’s walk across Wales is a fantastic example and we’re really proud to support his challenge”.
