Beth Winter MP helps Cwmaman gets new free to use cash machine

Written by on 18th March 2022

Cwmaman in the Cynon Valley is the latest community to receive a new free to use ATM, as part of an initiative to provide greater access to cash in the community.

Up until recently, the former mining village and birthplace of the Stereophonics, only had a charging cash machine meaning residents would need to travel to nearby Aberdare to get free access to cash.

LINK, the UK’s main ATM cash machine network, run a community request initiative. This is the 13th location in Wales to have benefited from a new machine including Abertillery, Caerleon and Efail Isaf. Thanks to a request from the local MP for the Cynon Valley, Beth Winter, LINK visited Cwmaman and agreed to install a new machine.

This week it went live in the Cwmaman convenience store, 24-27 FForchaman Rd, CF446NG.

Over 90 communities across the UK have benefited from the initiative and any community that believes it has an issue can apply for support for free access to cash directly to LINK.

LINK have helped to install a free to use Cwmaman convenience store, making Cwmaman one of the most recent communities to benefit from the LINK Community request initiative. LINK is homing in on their 100-community milestone with over 90 communities benefiting from the initiative to date.

LINK’s Head of Financial Inclusion, Nick Quin

“We’re really grateful to work closely with Beth Winter on this. She was able to explain why a visit to Aberdare to get cash wasn’t always the easiest and that the community would benefit from a free to machine. We’re pleased it’s now up and running.”

Local Councillor, Tina Williams:

This will make a real difference for people in Cwmaman. I want to put on record my thanks the owners of Cwmaman Convenience Store for kindly agreeing to change their cash machine to free to use, I know people in my community will really appreciate it.”

Member of Parliament for Cynon Valley Beth Winter

Everybody in Cynon Valley should have quick and easy access to cash, without being charged to withdraw their own money.’

‘I must thank LINK for their prompt and effective response to the request from Cllr Williams and myself in Cwmaman. If you don’t have quick and easy access to cash in your community, please get in touch with my office and we will get on the case.”
