Armed Police Called to Ynyshir

Armed police were called to a residential street in Ynyshir on Monday evening following reports a man had made “threats” with a weapon.

Several armed police officers and police vehicles were seen in Ynyshir Road, at around 6.30pm and the road was blocked as officers made enquiries.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the officers were responding as a “precautionary measure” following reports a man had made threats and could potentially have been in possession of a weapon.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident.

They said: “Police arrested a man following an incident in the Porth area last night.

“At approximately 6.30pm armed officers were deployed to Ynyshir Road as precaution in response to information that a suspect, who was reported to have made threats, could potentially have been in possession of a weapon.

“A man was arrested shortly after.”

No-one was said to be hurt during the incident.
