Rhondda Cynon Taf Council have announced that they will be officially raising the flag to mark Armed Forces Day 2021.
Due to the current restrictions in place due to the global pandemic, commemorative events are once again limited this year. However, the Council is keen to show its annual support.
Councillor Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Deputy Leader and Armed Forces Champion, said: “Armed Forces Day is a chance for us all to show our support for the men and women who make up our Armed Forces community – we owe them all so much.
“From currently serving troops at home and overseas to Service families, veterans and cadets, this Council and its residents will never forget the sacrifices you have made and continue to make.
“Once again this year in Rhondda Cynon Taf, we will be marking Armed Forces Day while adhering to all the current restrictions in place, and we ask all those who plan on attending to respect those around them.
“Wear a face covering when outdoors, wash hands and sanitise regularly and maintain social distance at all times. Together we can make this a safe Armed Forces Day in our County Borough.”
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council was one of the first local authorities in Wales to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012.
On June 2, 2018, the local authority also granted the Freedom of the County Borough to MOD St Athan, and all local service personnel of the Royal Air Force, past and present.
To mark Armed Forces Day 2021, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council will be holding an official Raising of the Flag Service outdoors at its new Llys Cadwyn development, Pontypridd, on Wednesday, June 23.
Forces Fitness will also be hosting limited outdoor fun activity sessions for families to celebrate Armed Forces Day at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on Saturday, June 26.
There will be two one-hour sessions taking place at 11am and at 12:30pm, with activities such as mini obstacle course and a tug-of-war contest. Welsh Government COVID-19 restrictions must be adhered to at all times.
Sessions must be pre-booked by contacting the RCT Armed Forces Team on 07747485619 or email Armedforces@rctcbc.gov.uk
