Active Travel consultation extension and face-to-face meetings

Written by on 4th October 2021

The Active Travel consultation has now been extended until November 22. Residents can also book face-to-face meetings with Officers to discuss Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s future plans for local walking and cycling provision.

The current engagement exercise was launched in August, allowing residents to view the updated Active Travel Network Map for Rhondda Cynon Taf. This shows the existing walking and cycling routes, and outlines the new routes which the Council is committed to creating within communities in the future. Residents are able to leave comments on each of the 22 sections of the map.

The Council has announced that the consultation is extended by two weeks, and will now remain open until Monday, November 22.

In addition, residents can now book a face-to-face meeting with a Council Officer to discuss any aspect of the consultation, or to help submit feedback. These opportunities are available at the following times and venues:

  • Abercynon Library – Tuesday, October 5 (10am-midday)
  • Aberdare Library (One4All room) – Tuesday, October 5 (1pm-3pm)
  • Hirwaun Library – Tuesday, October 5 (3.30pm-5.30pm)
  • Porth Library – Thursday, October 7 (10am-midday)
  • Ferndale Library – Thursday, October 7 (1pm-3pm)
  • Llantrisant Leisure Centre – Tuesday, October 12 (10am-midday).
  • Pontypridd Library – Tuesday, October 12 (1pm-3pm)
  • Rhydyfelin Library – Tuesday, October 12 (3.30pm-5.30pm)

Residents must book in advance to secure an appointment, by calling Hayley on 01443 494737. Each appointment will last no longer than 15 minutes, to enable Officers to see as many people as possible at each venue. These events will use social distancing and all Officers will wear face coverings.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways and Transportation, said: “As part of the ongoing Active Travel consultation, officers will be visiting local libraries for a series of events to discuss the current and future walking and cycling routes with residents. The consultation is the final opportunity for residents to find out more and put forward suggestions about local Active Travel provision, before we formally submit our plans to Welsh Government.

“The consultation continues to ask key questions – whether we have identified the correct routes for future improvement, whether there are routes we haven’t identified, and whether current routes meet agreed standards.

“Active Travel has many benefits associated with people’s health and well-being, and also helps to improve the environment. We remain committed to encouraging more people to take part in walking and cycling as a part of their daily routines.

“Please be reminded that the upcoming opportunities to meet with Officers must be booked in advance. This will help as we try to cater for everyone who has shown an interest, and avoids overcrowding in our libraries. It is really positive news that we can return to face-to-face meetings as part of our consultation events, running alongside the online element of the process which we’ve used throughout the pandemic.

“Alongside the events, the Council has also today announced that the wider consultation will be extended by two weeks. This will give additional time for local residents to share their views, and the Council will continue to promote the consultation up until the revised deadline of November 22.”

Take part in the consultation on a dedicated page of the Council’s website, which is available here.
