Five-year-old Abigail has raised more than £2,000 for Hope Rescue by undertaking a sponsored walk in her local area.

Last September, Abigail underwent lower limb surgery and spent 10 weeks in casts. She undertook her two-mile sponsored challenge in her walker, and this was the furthest she had ever walked.

Abigail wanted to make a difference for animals in need after reading a book called Nala’s World. She chose to support her local dog rescue charity, Hope Rescue in Llanharan.

Her journey started at Church Village where she took the path alongside the bypass to Llantwit Fardre, before returning via the same route. Her family and supporters from Hope Rescue were there to cheer her on.

Abigail’s mother, Emma, thanked everyone who came along and those who had donated,

“Abigail went out and completed the walk, with lots of support from lovely people. We are very proud of her…even with tired legs she powered through.”

Katie Hedges from Hope Rescue said,

“We’re all in awe of Abigail’s achievement and grateful to her for thinking of the dogs here at Hope Rescue. Her fundraising will make an immediate impact, helping to prepare dogs for their second chance at a happy life. I’m sure she will inspire others to take up a fundraising challenge too.”

Following her inspirational challenge, Abigail was invited to visit the Hope Rescue centre to see how her fundraising would help the dogs in Hope’s care.

She toured the kennels and met some of the dogs looking for their forever homes, including Tizzy the chihuahua cross.

In total, Abigail raised more than £1,200 in online donations, and a further £800 through family and friends.
