Gadlys Rovers Juniors has scored after receiving £2,500 which will go towards ensuring its under 14 side is kitted out for the season ahead.
The team has received the funding from local energy company Pennant Walters and will now wear the company’s logo proudly on its new team shirts. The money will also cover essential training equipment and running costs.
Gadlys Rovers Juniors has a history with Pennant Walters after representatives from the two organisations came together to climb Pen-y-Fan, raising over £1,500 for cancer centre, Velindre.
Gadlys Rovers Juniors under 14 coach, Alun Bevan, explains:
“This funding is fantastic for our young boys and the club. It will provide stability for the team for the next two years – the remainder of their time playing junior football.
“We’re a small community team, and there are many expenses connected with running the side. Having the support of Pennant Walters means that some of the pressure has been taken off our parents and the boy’s families, who do such a great job in fundraising.
“Our players are proud of the contribution Pennant Walters has made to their game and we’ll wear their logo with pride.”
The funding from Pennant Walters is linked to Pennant Walters’ 9 turbine 22 MW Mynydd Bwllfa windfarm near Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf, which became operational in summer 2015. It builds on previous donations which have seen the company provide money to support various local community groups.
Pennant Walters asset manager, Harry Llewellyn, said:
“We’re proud to link and support Gadlys Rovers Juniors. As a local energy company we are committed to supporting the communities close to our projects and are delighted this funding will help see these young players through to them joining youth teams.
“Our wind energy project community funds exist to make a difference to the areas in which we work, and we wish the Club the best of luck. We look forward to following their success.”
