Abercynon Cat Missing

Written by on 4th October 2017

An RSPCA Cymru appeal for information has been launched following reports that a number of cats in the Abercynon area have gone missing.

The charity has been contacted after a male tabby and white cat, named Monty, went missing from Lock Street in the area on July 25 – and has not been found.

Enquiries from the animal’s owner suggest numerous other cats from the surrounding streets have gone missing, prompting concern as to what has happened to them. It is understood a total of eight cats have disappeared since late July in this area.

RSPCA Cymru say it is “unusual” to be notified of so many missing cats from a few neighbouring streets, and are calling on anyone with information they may think relevant to contact their inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.

The charity is also highlighting the importance of microchipping cats, which they say offers the best chance of pets being identified and returned to owners if they become lost or stolen.

Gemma Cooper, RSPCA inspector, said:

“It’s unusual to be notified of so many missing cats from one locality; and naturally this is causing some concern within the community about what has happened.

“A male tabby and white cat from Lock Street went missing on July 25, and the owner has since discovered that a number of other pet owners have seen their cats disappear in the neighbouring Abercynon streets.

“If anyone has any information connected to these reports, they are urged to contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018, with all calls treated in confidence.

“The circumstances behind these reported disappearances are not clear. However, we continue to emphasise the importance of microchipping cats. This gives a pet a unique code, and dramatically improves the chances of a lost or stolen animal being reunited with their owner.”
