A Tribute to Howard Griffiths

Written by on 26th December 2022

It is with very great sadness we must announce the death of veteran GTFM broadcaster Howard Griffiths, after a very short illness, at the age of 77.

A retired train driver, Howard’s been volunteering at the local radio station throughout its entire life of more than 20 years and is probably best known for his warm and cheery on-air style and massive passion for ‘Golden Oldie’ music, especially from the 1960’s.

He will also be missed by many in Pontypridd and beyond for the enormous amount of charity work he did, collecting huge amounts of money over the years for a great many charitable causes, including GTFM, for which he’s appeared as a very convincing Santa in recent years, complete with real white beard.

Howard’s family has asked that we still broadcast the Christmas Day programme he recorded earlier this week, which was broadcast at 12noon on Christmas Day 2022. You can hear the progamme in the player below.

GTFM sends its sincere condolences to Howard’s wife Kate, daughter Hayley, son Baz, daughter in law Steph and grand children Nia, Rick and Hannah at this very sad time.
