A man from Aberdare has been jailed for the manslaughter

Daniel Howells-Thomas, 24, of Penywaun, Aberdare appeared at Merthyr Crown Court on Friday January 21, and was jailed for nine years.
Keyron Curtis, 21, died from what was described by doctors as a catastrophic head injury after being punched outside the Colliers Arms in Aberdare in the early hours of October 17, 2021.
According to Keyron’s friends who witnessed the incident, he was punched with such force by Daniel Howells-Thomas that he immediately lost consciousness before hitting his head on a curb. He died in hospital from his injuries following day.
Daniel Howells-Thomas pleaded guilty to manslaughter back in November.

Keyron’s family have paid the following tribute to him, and wanted to thank those who have shown them support through very difficult times.
They said:
“We would like to thank everyone who has supported and helped us over the last few months.“Keyron was a true, soft, gentle person who would have done anything for anyone, he will be dearly missed.“Keyron was very much loved by us all. If love alone could have saved Keyron he would be here be here with us today.“We will always love you, Keyron Chopper Curtis.”
The officer who led the police investigation, Detective Inspector David Butt, previously called it a cowardly act inflicted upon somebody who was in no way able to defend himself. He also thanked the local community of Penywaun who supported the investigation by coming forward with vital eyewitness evidence.
