£5,000 awarded to families affected by Storm Dennis

For many families across Pontypridd Covid19 has not been their only struggle this year, just weeks before we were put into ‘Lockdown’ Pontypridd and surrounding areas suffered the worst flooding the town has seen in a lifetime.
Children woke in the early hours of Sunday Feb 16th to the sounds of neighbours banging on doors and parents panicking as river water surged into their properties – destroying toys, photographs, furniture; turning lives upside down in a matter of hours.
Several of our Little Lounge Team were part of the emergency response in the days and weeks following Storm Dennis; cleaning houses, delivering meals, organising help. When we saw that WVCA was welcoming applications from Community Groups for funding we applied straight away.
At Little Lounge we are committed to promoting the well-being of children in their early years and their families, across Pontypridd. We wanted to help in any way we could – and administering this Crowd Fund was something we could do!
Zoey Loveridge a Mam of two who’s house was flooded in Trehafod said: “We would like to thank Little Lounge for your very kind and generous assistance after our house was flooded. This will help us greatly in replacing many of the toys that our daughters lost and will go a long way to bringing some normality back to their lives. Thank you so much..”
Little Lounge worked with RCT and local Councillors to identify families with children under the age of six. 20 Families received between £100 and £290 each. Darran Jones a Dad from Nantgarw said “Thank u to all who donated to the funds, my son will be over the moon with the gift he will have”
Katie Hadley added “We know it’s not a huge amount compared to what these families have lost, but we hope at this difficult time it will at least help families buy some new toys for their little ones who have been through so much.”
“As trustees we have been out delivering these grants to families in the form of Amazon Vouchers, it’s been great to finally get this money into their hands. With thanks to all who donated to the Michael Sheen Crowd Fund, for standing alongside flood affected residents in the valleys.“
