2 Wish Upon A Star
Written by Gavin on 13th February 2017
On Tuesday 14th February, bereavement support charity 2 Wish Upon A Star will be opening a family bereavement room at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in memory of charity founder Rhian’s son George and husband Paul (Pictured above).
The opening of the room marks what would have been George’s 6th birthday.
The charity was founded in 2012 by Rhian Burke following the sudden loss of her son George. Rhian and her husband Paul found that there was little to no support available, and unable to cope with the loss, five days later, Paul passed away.
Rhian created the charity so that no parent in Wales ever need experience that same feeling of helplessness and abandonment. When George sadly passed away at the hospital, there were no private facilities where Rhian or Paul could say goodbye.
The bereavement rooms are designed to give families a private and comforting space where loved ones can wait for news, and when necessary, be together to say their final goodbyes.
Five years on the charity now works with every health board & police force in Wales, providing immediate support to families that lose a child or young person suddenly or unexpectedly.
